Marco Falasca

Professor Marco Falasca is a Professor in the Department of Medicine and Surgery at the University of Parma, and Adjunct Professor at the University of Western Australia in Perth. He has previously held senior academic appointments as Professor of Metabolism at Curtin Medical School (Curtin University, Perth), Professor at Queen Mary University of London, and Senior Lecturer in the Department of Medicine at University College London. Professor Falasca earned his PhD at the Mario Negri Institute in Italy and completed postdoctoral training in the Department of Pharmacology at New York University, USA. His research focuses on cellular and intercellular communication, with a particular emphasis on the role of lipid metabolites in pancreatic cancer progression, gastrointestinal function, and the pathophysiology of exosomes. Over the course of his career, Professor Falasca has secured more than $20 million in competitive research funding from agencies in the UK, Italy, Australia, the European Union, and the United States. He has authored more than 180 peer-reviewed publications in leading scientific journals, including Science, Nature Communications, Journal of the National Cancer Institute, EMBO Journal, Blood, Cancer Research, and Oncogene.
