James Buxbaum
A native of Southern California Dr. Buxbaum attended Stanford University and receive his medical and GI training at the University of California, San Francisco (UCSF). Over the past sixteen years he has developed an active clinical research program that is closely integrated with his teaching and clinical role at the University of Southern California (USC), Keck School of Medicine. His academic interests included clinical trials to improve the management of acute pancreatitis, and the outcomes of endoscopic therapy for pancreaticobiliary disorders as well as development of new technology for the early detection of gastrointestinal neoplasia. He is a Professor of Medicine and Clinical Scholar at USC. He is currently serving as the Executive Director of the Digestive Health Institute, Keck Medicine of USC and previously was Chief of GI and Endoscopy at the Los Angeles General Hospital. He directs the interventional endoscopy fellowship at USC. He served as Associate Editor of the journal Gastrointestinal Endoscopy for 7 years and has led evidence-based clinical practice guidelines as part of the American Society of Gastrointestinal Endoscopy Standards of Practice Committee, American Gastroenterology Association Clinical Guidelines Committee and the American College of Gastroenterology.
